Hole 13 – Wappoo
378 yards
Though there is no formal template associated with this hole, the green complex—flanked by bunkers left and front that are invisible from the tee, with a steep back-left-to-front and front-right slope, two diagonal parallel spines, and its setting along Country Club Drive and the Wappoo Cut just beyond—is one of the most compelling on the course.
In 2021, Franz restored the fairway bunkering according to early plans and aerials and extended a “finger” off the second right bunker to split the fairway, much like the 5th at National Golf Links of America.
For the current project, the primary focus has been the green complex. Work has centered on matching the contours to the LaFoy elevation data and the earliest aerial photographs of the green and surrounding bunkers. The result is a green that again rewards precise placement off the tee and a thoughtful approach into its diagonally sloping surfaces. With such a dramatic green, be mindful of the swirling winds blowing in off the Wappoo Cut.
