Hole 12 – Road

356 yards

Traditionally, the Road Hole template is a longer par 5 modeled after the 17th at the Old Course. However, No. 12 at CCC is a short par 4 that begins a series of three shorter par 4s. It preserves the original railway shed hazard concept off the tee via a massive southern live oak tree that the Club insisted Raynor incorporate into his design. From there, the green is set into an ancient dune ridge and mirrors the classic Road Hole silhouette, with a deep front pot bunker and a long, diagonal rear bunker representing the “road.”

A bunker has now been built near the oak on the right, as shown on the early plans, creating a stacking effect with the long left bunkers beyond.

Using LaFoy’s elevation measurements and early photographs, the green has had its false front restored, the entire lost left side recaptured, and the subtle rise along the right and back of the putting surface reinstated. Position off the tee is again critical to avoid the front pot bunker and leave a manageable putt or chip from the correct tier.
